The Institute is very pleased and honoured to have Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, as its Patron. This continues the provision of Vice Regal Patronage to the SIA by former Governor-Generals, namely Major General Michael Jeffrey AC, CVO, MC (Retd) (2003-2008); The Right Reverend Dr Peter Hollingworth, AC, OBE (2001-2003); and The Honourable Sir William Patrick Dean, AC, KBE (1996-2001).
Fellows Investiture Ceremony
When members of the Institute attain Fellowship grades, i.e. Chartered Fellow (CFSIA) or Fellow (FSIA), their Fellowship is formally conferred in person by our Patron. Each year, liaison occurs with Government House to seek Her Excellency's attendance at an investiture ceremony, either at Government House in Canberra or Admiralty House in Sydney. At such ceremonies, the new Fellows receive their Fellowship from the Governor-General and take the College of Fellows Pledge which is an articulation of the SIA Code of Ethics. All new Fellows of the SIA receive an invitation to participate in an investiture ceremony at Yarralumla. To date, over one hundred Fellows have had their Fellowships conferred by the Governor-General.
