Position Profiles
President
The prime function of the President of the Safety Institute of Australia is to develop, support, facilitate and lead the Institute toward achieving the organisational goals it sets itself. The President is expected to provide the leadership and define the responsibilities and tasks set for the National Board of Management.
The President of the Safety Institute of Australia is the regular chairperson of the National Board of Management. As the Chairperson, whose main duties are to preserve order and see that proceedings are carried out in a proper manner, he/she shall ensure that all rules and bylaws are followed.
As the Chairperson, he/she is responsible for ensuring the proper conduct of business and that National Board of Management Members meet their responsibilities to the SIA.
Secretary
The Secretary of the Safety Institute of Australia must demonstrate a sense of mutual and personal accountability for the achievement of the Institute's goals while supporting the President in the decision making processes that are appropriate to the goals of the Institute.
The Secretary of the Safety Institute of Australia reports directly to the President (as Chairperson of the National Board of Management) and is responsible for giving information and advice. The Secretary shall keep the Chairperson informed of any matters which may invalidate proceedings at a meeting, for example, the absence of a quorum. In particular, the Secretary shall exercise wide authority so as to bind the SIA to its charter and oversight the administration of the SIA.
The Secretary shall discharge all duties, including the management of correspondence, over sighting all financial affairs and the maintenance of proper records.
Treasurer
The Treasurer of the Safety Institute of Australia shall be responsible for the receipt of all monies paid or received, and shall issue proper receipts. The Treasurer shall have custody of all securities, books and documents of a financial nature and the accounting records of the Institute. The Treasurer shall maintain close liaison with the President and the National Board of Management and shall ensure that all cheques or payments made are signed by the Treasurer and one other National Board of Management member authorised to do so.
Committee of Management
As specified in the constitution of the Safety Institute of Australia, the National Board of Management shall consist of the President (Chairperson), Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and not less than four (4) other members of the Institute. National Board of Management members are expected to conduct the affairs of the Institute impartially, and in the best interests of the Institute as a whole.
The National Board of Management is expected to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Institute by specifying desired outcomes, setting goals which increase role clarity for individuals and groups within the Institute. One aim of the National Board of Management is to reduce uncertainty in the day by day management of the Institute.
The President of the Safety Institute of Australia shall provide the National Board of Management with performance challenges and indicators against individuals, teams and/or Divisions which can be measured.
