Secretary - Phil Howard, B App Sc, Dip OHS
My interest in safety stems from personal and employment experiences in the agricultural and local government industry sectors. In both of these sectors safety problems were commonly encountered and these experiences helped me to learn and develop problem-solving skills. My first official safety practitioner's role began in local government after I was elected to a OHS committee and after a short period of time I began coordinating OHS programs for two neighbouring Councils. In 2000 I joined a government/private water, electricity and gas joint venture and in 2002 became Manager Safety. I've been SIA's ACT secretary since 2006 and as a volunteer it is my way of putting something back into the local community and the safety occupation.
