Draft model Codes of Practice open for public comment

Tuesday 4 October, 2011

The public comment period for 15 draft model Codes of Practice which support the new model Work Health and Safety legislation recently opened.

The draft model Codes of Practice released for public comment include: managing risks in construction work; managing risks of hazardous chemicals; demolition work; preventing and managing fatigue in the workplace; and preventing and responding to workplace bullying.

“The new model work health and safety laws ensure organisations can comply with one set of laws regardless of the number of states or territories in which they operate,” said Tom Phillips, Chair of Safe Work Australia.

“This will ease the burden on business owners operating across the country.”

The public comment period for the draft model Codes of Practice closes on 18 November 2011 for six of the draft Codes of Practice, while comments on the remainder of the draft Codes of Practice will close 16 December 2011.

The public comment period for model Work Health and Safety legislation on mining has been extended until 7 October 2011.
