HFESA Improving Facility Design in Health

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia is pleased to present this one day workshop on designing health and aged care facilities for safety. The workshop is hosted by the Healthcare ergonomics Special Interest Group (HealthSIG) in conjunction with the South Australian Branch of HFESA and the national professional development program.

The workshop will meet the requirements for ergonomists with respect to professional development and maintenance of certification.

How this workshop will help you
The workshop will empower participants to:

  1. Understand how workplace design can affect safety, with a focus on manual handling and workplace violence.
  2. Obtain hands on working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance material.
  3. Identify risk factors from architectural drawings to suggest improvements.
  4. Establish effective user consultation throughout the design process, and
  5. Develop tactics and skills to influence the design process at critical stages.

About the presenter
The workshop will be lead by Mark Hennessy. Mark is a Certified Professional Ergonomist with a Master's degree in Public Health and thirty years practical experience in ergonomics and community safety. Mark co-authored the original versions of key Victorian WorkCover publications Designing Workplaces for Safer Handling of People and Transferring People Safely. Mark has consulted on design to approximately fifty health and aged care facilities.
