As the NSW Vice President and one of the co-founders of the Plant & Machinery SIG, I would like to welcome and encourage active participation in this specialist OHS field.
As one of this SIG's areas of focus is to "Establish a forum of Plant and Machine Safety Professionals to forge national and international links for world's best practice" could I please ask for our Plant & Machinery OHS colleagues to post up their details for future reference and active participation.
To maintain confidentiality please disclose as much or as little as you like, as we compose a reference library that may prove to be a valuable future resource.

Hi Keith, Great to have you on board! It is early days for this SIG, but as per the Plant & Machinery Overview you can appreciate the areas of focus, and the initial direction we would like to head in. However as with all SIA SIG groups we will respond to the specifics of topics posted by our colleagues based on our wealth of knowledge in the profession. Regards, Kurt |

Hi Kurt, Good to see that the SIG is being noticed. As we discussed in Sydney, as co-founders, there is a need for this forum identified in forging links nationally and internationally, addressing Plant and Machine Safety. Only with combined efforts and knowledge as OH&S Professionals we will be able to influence the ‘World’s best practice’. I just contributed to an important discussion on Safety compliance of Imported Equipment and looking at the postings on that discussion, I think that his subject is hitting the nail on the head touching a serious nerve…

Hello Kurt, I have a great interest in the Plant & Machinery SIG, and would like to be involved in any SIA focused activities in this area. I have a qualified industrial electrical background, a Dip OHS, and a recent position as an OHS teacher at a TAFE college in Geelong, VIC. I have spent a number of years in a sales / account management position providing assistance to the manufacturing sector regarding the safe guarding of machinery and plant, in particular, the elelctrical control systems for engineered solutions. I have amassed over the years a resource folder filled with plant & equipment documentation, and am eager to learn from others who have had experience in this field. Kind regards, Mark Robb Pro-Safe |

I have had a wide and long involvement in plant and machinery safety, with an emphasis on materials handling equipment, cranes, forklifts, agricultural machinery and heavy vehicles and mobile plant. My major concerns have been that while risk assessments were mandated virtually none were ever done, and a suignificant number of thosed were done very poorly, and that road trasnport has generally been excluded from plant and machinery even thbough road freight has the highest death rate per 100,000 persons of all the major occupations. And the other concern is that many people, including OHS professionals don't "see" the risks. I'm happy to assist whereever I can John Lambert |
