Hi All
I am a registered nurse (15 yrs experience) with a Post Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing and currently working in an Emergency Department. I am a third of the way through my Masters in Occupational, Environmental Health and Safety at Edith Cowan University in WA.
This semester I am studying Risk Management and would appreciate any advice with useful resources or websites that I could visit, specific to the topic.
Kind Regards
Lucia Clarke

Lucia, Of course there is the standard 4360? A Google search will pull up a lot of stuff A lot of the major university OHS policy web-sites tend to have a bit on risk management. In Qld. there is a risk management code of practice under the state safety legislation, I would imagine there is similiar in W.A.. Risk assessment has assumed an importance greater that is valid in my view. Regards, George Robotham |

Thanks Rod, I have not got around to reading the International Standard yet as I am still receiving treatment for post-traumatic stress syndrome from reading the A.S. and associated handbook.Silly me, I think safety publications should be succinct. What are the main differences? Regards, George Robotham |

Thank you George and Rod for taking the time to answer my question. I will definitely be using the ISO 3100 as well as Google searches. Much appreciated. Kind Regards Lucia |

Hi Lucia I am completing my Master of Health Science (majoring in risk management) at the QUT this year and have a lot of good documents on risk management. For your information in respect to getting a better handle on the new standard, Google - Transitioning to the new risk management standard - AS/NZS/ISO 31000:2009. Regards Stuart |

Lucia, I am studying the same Masters program through ECU and I completed that unit last year. I have just started back this week (think duckling on a pond) with the intention of finishing by the end of this year. ISO 31000 was not out for my course work so I used 4360, 4804, 4801 and HB 205 throughout the course. I don't have the hands on experience compared with most Safety professionals but if I can help at all I will. I also work about 500 metres from Joondalup campus if you need anything. please drop me an email kind regards Craig cralph@bigpond.net.au |

Morning / Afternoon, I am keen for some advice. I am an operational Watch Commander in the NT Fire and Rescue Service so I have a reasonable understanding of Risk Assessment and Risk Management and I have some qualifications in this area. I also run a small Management Consultancy when I am off duty from the NTFRS. Given my background as a professional Fire Officer, just lately I have had a local Insurance Brokerage firm ask me to conduct Risk Profiling on a number of their clients. Essentially they want me to go on site, carry out a survey, write a report and submit it to them so that they know exactly who / what they are insuring - and what premium they need to charge. My question is this. Are there any basic, easy to use software packages that I can purchase that have risk assessment matrix's, hazard ID registers, templates, checklists etc and other tools that I can use both on-site when I do these surveys and also I can use in the report. I don't need anything too complicated, just a fairly basic yet comprehensive 'tool kit' for this new stream in my business. Appreciate your help. Nick. |

Hi, not that long ago there was an advert to an IPhone Risk Management application. Can't remember where I saw this but it was this year some time. I don't have an IPhone so I don't know if it was any good or not. IFAP (WA) have a nomogram that is a consequence x exposure x probability equation. It is based on OHS Risk Assessment AS/NZS 4804:2001 http://www.ifap.asn.au/software/index.html hope this helps Craig Ralph |
