The Safety Institute of Australia Ltd. (SIA) is proud to announce its involvement with the KIDS Foundation in the lead up to Injury Free Day (IF Day) on October 29, 2010.
IF Day encourages Australian workplaces to take a proactive approach to Safety both in the workplace and at home, spreading the IF Day message:
Safety is: Looking out for your mates
Safety is: Knowing your limits
Safety is: Common sense
“IF Day is the perfect way for workplaces to be actively involved in Safe Work Australia week. It is a fun, engaging and relevant way to not only focus on workplace safety but to raise funds for the KIDS Foundation”, said Nick Clare, General Manager KIDS Foundation.
We are thrilled to have the support of the Safety Institute of Australia Ltd. as a key strategic partner of IF Day 2010, as well as Protector Alsafe as our presenting sponsor. Together we hope to make this IF Day the biggest and best yet.”
Last year in Australia, there were more than 175 ‘notified’ work-related fatalities and over 131,000 serious workers’ compensated claims related to work injury or illness. Injury costs workplaces millions of dollars in lost productivity annually, not to mention the emotional toll it places on an injured worker’s family, friends and colleagues.
Further highlighted in a recent survey, The Business of Safety, a joint initiative between the Australian Institute of Management (AIM VT) and the SIA, revealed that poor leadership and productivity concerns were impacting on the safety of our worksites.
Gary Lawson-Smith, CEO Safety Institute of Australia Ltd. said, “IF Day provides a wonderful and timely opportunity for workplaces to get involved in this great initiative. The SIA has been a proud strategic partner of the KIDS Foundation since 2008, based upon an enabling category of ‘Youth – Injury Prevention’. Such a collaborative approach aims to assist workers and children throughout Australia to arrive home safely every day.”
How can your workplace get involved?
Workplaces can participate in several ways – an opportunity to purchase either a small IF Day kit ($100) or a large kit ($300) and take part in the online competition by registering on the IF Day website:
