Work Safe week will celebrate its 'Coming of Age’

Friday 8 October, 2010

Work Safe Week, Victoria's premier safety event is now in its 18th year and to help celebrate its ‘coming of age' WorkSafe Victoria is making it bigger and better than ever before.

For beginners to experts in the field, small, medium and large sized business across every industry, from Monday 25 to Friday 29 October seminars on an enormous range of topics will be presented at venues across the state.

Work Safe Week is the easiest and most popular way for Victorian employers, workers and others involved in health and safety to get practical information and solutions to common risks and hazards in their industry.

Some of the key seminars at Work Safe Week 2010 include:

  • Bullying, are you doing enough? - practical information on how to prevent bullying in your workplace and how to respond if it does happen.
  • Manual handling basics - learn how to use WorkSafe Victoria manual handling risk assessment and control worksheets with information on challenges and solutions from within a number of industries including construction, manufacturing, child care to name a few.

 Other topics include seminars on:

  • New laws - learn about the national health and safety laws, and changes to the Accident Compensation Act.
  • Slips trips and falls - understand the risks of slips, trips and falls, and what you need to do to make your workplace safe.
  • Health and wellbeing - learn about the latest findings and developments from the WorkHealth program
  • Return to work - gain an understanding of employer's duties and obligations and the role of the newly created Return to work Inspectors.

All events are free. You must register to attend. Many seminars book out quickly so get in early to ensure your seat at this years premier safety event.

Feedback from last year found that 75% of those who had attended an event had made changes back at the workplace.

Seminars and events are being held in:

  • Melbourne - city, Dandenong, Sunshine
  • Regional Victoria - Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Bendigo, Flinders, Geelong, Horsham, Mildura, Morwell, Seymour, Shepparton, Warrnambool and Wodonga,
