Ladies and Gentlemen
It gives me great pleasure to release for your attention the SIA's ACT Branch Media Release on its Activity Program celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Institute's inception. Your executive has been very busy designing the program with a broader range of higher value activities for you and your OHS professional peers in the ACT Branch. The activity program is really focused on ensuring that OHS Professionals in the ACT Branch (note I do not say just SIA Members) have the opportunity to review contemporary OHS practice, share effective approaches to OHS management, and to provide input to local, regional and national OHS issues.
As a start to the program we are coordinating two opportunities to come up to speed with the National Harmonisation of OHS Legislation on either the evening of 22 Apr at the National Press Club, or during work hours at Russell Offices. The evening event will provide us all an opportunity to see a pre-recording of Mr Barry Sherriff 's presentation on ‘Due Diligence under the National Harmonisation of OHS Legislation' to the Safety In Action Conference earlier this month, and then to workshop some scenarios surrounding the introduction of the revised legislation.
Some of you may have seen some power point slides floating around, which give you some insight, however hearing it from the "horse's mouth" is much more informative. We are hoping to secure Barry Sherriff's in-person presentation to a broader audience at the Russell Offices theatrette on the afternoon of 28 Apr 09, but some details are yet to be confirmed regarding timings and venue availability. We anticipate an introduction to Barry's presentation by ACT OHS Commissioner, Mr Mark McCabe.
Please don't hesitate to contact Tony Mitchell on antony.mitchell1@defence.gov.au or mobile 0410 626 393 after 19 Apr 09 if you haven't received more information or you require more details.
