Congratulations to all winners, grant and certificate recipients in the
2011 Fire Awareness Awards held on Thursday, 1 December.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Bushfire Response Peter Ryan said the
awards attracted a large number of entries this year as communities
demonstrated both innovative and proactive initiatives ahead of the fire
season.
“These awards acknowledge excellence in projects that make a difference in
reducing bushfires and highlights the strong partnerships between Victoria’s
fire services and their diverse community stakeholder groups,” Mr Ryan said.

Mr Ryan said 13 awards were announced across a range of categories and
five groups shared in $16,000 in grants to further new and existing projects.
Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Environment Donna Petrovich
presented the awards and acknowledged the quality of this year’s entries.
“This year’s entries showcase the broad range of groups, from surf clubs and
schools, through to local councils, charities, local environment groups and
businesses wanting to make a difference in relation to fire preparation and
response,” Mrs Petrovich said.
“Despite recent rain, Victorians cannot afford to be complacent this summer
therefore it is crucial to be well-prepared and fire ready.”
