Thank you to all who completed the recent member survey. The information gathered through methods such as the online survey provide useful information to the national office and board regarding how we can best serve our members.
The information we gained from the survey showed that we are doing some things well, and can improve in other areas. It was pleasing to note that the three most common reasons for members to be a part of the SIA are: professional credibility, supporting the profession and networking opportunities. Information sharing amongst safety professionals, particularly in relation to ‘what works’ in addressing some work health and safety issues can only strengthen health and safety outcomes for workers.
The survey results also showed that over 60% of respondents would like to be more involved with the SIA through either being part of a committee or representing the SIA within other groups. This is a great indicator of the willingness of our membership to engage in SIA activities which is of great importance, as a membership organisation such as the SIA is built on the strength and commitment of its members. I encourage anybody wishing to more involved in SIA activities to engage with your local branch chair regarding opportunities. There are always lots of opportunities to volunteer your expertise and/or time, and fresh ideas on how we can build on the SIA’s role in supporting the profession are welcome.
