From the desk of the CEO
I’m pleased to start this week’s ‘Round-up’ with good news and “congratulations” to one of our members. Michele Patterson was awarded the prestigious Australia Day 2012 Public Service Medal for “outstanding public service in the area of occupational health and safety”. Congratulations Michele!
Michele has played a substantial role in occupational health and safety for over 25 years at various levels, including work at a State level in South Australia and New South Wales, working at a national level with Safe Work Australia as a member and the Heads of Workplace Safety Authorities, and international achievements as the President of the International Association of Labour Inspection.
As well as sending our congratulations to Michelle, we should also recognise that it is a great achievement to have significant contributions to occupational health and safety recognised at a national level. The importance of occupational health and safety and the role it plays in society must be recognised for our members’ work to be effective, and this is one step in the right direction.
I also take this opportunity to remind you to renew your membership. There is still an opportunity to renew your membership prior to the conclusion of the financial year 2011-2012, and claim your tax deduction for this tax year.
