From the desk of the CEO

Thursday 26 July, 2012

Dear all, welcome to another week of ‘Round-up’. I am pleased to advise that we now have available to purchase, hard copies of the OHS Body of Knowledge. The OHS Body of Knowledge has been developed following substantial amounts of work from various health and safety professionals. The Body of Knowledge (BoK) provides both a basis for accreditation of OHS education programs and guidance for stakeholders on what a generalist OHS professional can be expected to know and practice.

Although it should be noted that the OHS Body of Knowledge is neither a textbook nor a curriculum; rather it describes the key concepts, core theories and related evidence that should be shared by Australian generalist OHS professionals.

More detailed information on the BoK can be found at: http://www.ohsbok.org.au/

As you may have been aware, the BoK was launched at the SIA National Convention in Melbourne during April this year. The BoK, or to use it’s formal title, the ‘The Core Body of Knowledge for Generalist OHS Professionals - Body of Knowledge’ is now available in hard copy for purchase. If you would like to own a ‘piece of OHS history’, a hard copy of the BoK can be purchased for $450 (inc GST) + $30 delivery (within Australia) from our website.

It was not initially our intention to produce a hard copy version of the book, because we see it as something that will need to be updated on an ongoing basis so that it remains relevant. We did receive a number of requests from individuals and organisations, however, who requested a ‘memento’ of the first edition, hence the publication. We are currently exploring how we can make the contents downloadable for a moderate fee from the website, so that is accessible to everyone. Another alternative we will explore is the ‘loose leaf’ hard copy version which will also be easier to update. I will let you know when we have been able to achieve that. While the book is quite expensive to collate and bind, hence the cost, the net income made from sales of the book will be used to re-invest in updating the Body of Knowledge for future editions of the on-line and any hard copy versions.

Purchase the BoK book 'The Core Body of Knowledge for Generalist OHS Professionals ' .

Whilst you are on our website, you may notice some changes. The ‘look’ of the website has been changed, to include pictures of our members, and a more ‘user friendly’ appearance. This is the start of more substantial changes to our website over time, so watch this space.
