From the desk of the CEO

Thursday 30 August, 2012

Welcome to the 48th edition of Round Up. This week the 20th Anniversary "Visions" Occupational Health and Safety Conference was held. The conference has been a successful event with engaging speakers and delegates enjoying both the presentations and networking opportunities.

The tragic news late last week from the USA of a sacked shop worker killing his former boss outside the New York Empire State building, brings a sobering reminder of the need to prevent workplace bullying and assist workers to deal with workplace stress in an appropriate manner. The “Visions” conference provided information on this theme of the importance of the mental wellbeing/health of workers and the value in effectively managing workplace conflict. I would like to bring your attention to a resource provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Health and Ageing called ‘Mind Health Connect.’ It is a useful resource with a vast amount of information and can be found on the Department of Health and Ageing website.

If you’ve missed the 20th Anniversary "Visions" Occupational Health and Safety Conference, you have another opportunity to hear some great speakers and network with your colleagues at the Safety Conference Sydney 2012 - ‘As the Dust Settles, which will be held from 23rd October until 25th October 2012. As a member, you are able to take advantage of registration discounts, and early bird rates apply until 24th September. So make the most of your membership and get involved with these rewarding events.
