Review OHS Qualifications - BSB07 VET Package - November 2011 Project Update

Dear Colleagues,

The major round of national consultations, input and comment to the Review's Discussion Paper has recently concluded. Many, many thanks to those who took the time to contribute feedback and comment. Your efforts have not gone un-noticed.

Next Steps and last chance to have your say

The National Project Reference Group (NPRG) have their next face to face meeting in Melbourne on 21st November 2011 to discuss the findings of those consultations, issues and comments, and to consider recommendations and proposed actions. Agreed outcomes will be incorporated into the next iteration Review Discussion Paper

The intention is to promulgate this next iteration of the Review on the IBSA website on or about 12th December 2011 for the final round of electronic input and comment from stakeholders, organisations, trainers, developers, etc. This final input period will conclude around mid to late January 2012. No further consultative workshops are planned. The Vocational & Workplace Training Group (VWTG) will be calling for input and comment from all SIA members over this period. The Safety Institute has indicated its desire to meet with the Project Review Team sometime during January 2012.

Final Comment Period likely to be - 12 Dec 2011 to mid/late Jan 2012

As a reminder to members, the Education Chapter's VWTG advise it is the VET Diploma qualification that is the basis for OHS practitioner certification. Whilst other qualifications in the training package are just as important, this is the qualification of major interest to the SIA in this Review. The focus for the SIA is about improving safety education and training in the VET sector as we have many challenges ahead not the least being implementation of model WHS legislation and the required requisite knowledge and skills. This Review is the watershed that will help make these changes happen.

Please familiarise yourself with the Institute's Submission and on-going developments. On behalf of the VWTG, I look forward to further contributions.
