WorkCover NSW have released a new resource to assist managers, workers and others to work together to prevent bullying in the workplace.
The Bullying prevention kit consists of a bullying prevention improvement tool, six workplace guide sheets on how to use the tool and assess the responses and six workplace advice sheets on how to improve bullying prevention in the workplace
The Bullying prevention kit works on a process of using the tool to collect information on how effectively (or otherwise) bullying prevention is implemented in the workplace, assessing the results of that information and then implementing improvements where relevant.
The assessment uses a ‘traffic light’ system of:
green zone - workplace is doing well and bullying prevention systems should be regularly monitored and, where necessary, improved,
orange zone - existing bullying prevention systems need improvement, or
red zone - there are areas that require immediate action.
WorkCover NSW advise that the advice sheets include:
Management commitment – advice sheet one managers promote a bullying free culture in their workplace and provide resources to meet those responsibilities
Consultation – advice sheet two workers are involved in the identification and resolution of bullying issues
Bullying prevention policy and related procedures – advice sheet three acceptable and unacceptable behaviours and ways of preventing and responding to bullying are outlined
Training and supervision – advice sheet four instruction and training on workplace bullying prevention is provided to workers
Reporting bullying – advice sheet five workers know how to report bullying hazards or incidents
Injury management – advice sheet six workers know about injury notification and return-to-work programs.
