WorkSafe NT: Fireworks Retailer Pleads Guilty To Hoarding Fireworks

Thursday 9 August, 2012

WorkSafe NT report that a Darwin business owner pleaded guilty in the Court of Summary Jurisdiction to storing dangerous goods (fireworks) without a licence, and was convicted and fined $600 in addition to a victim assistance levy of $40.

The business owner was granted a licence to sell fireworks as a retailer for Territory Day 2010, but failed to return unsold fireworks to the wholesaler (as required by the retail licence) at the conclusion of Territory Day. The business owner was storing approximately 40 boxes of fireworks in a shed in Winnellie.

WorkSafe NT report that the fireworks were discovered by NT Emergency Services after the fireworks were ignited by a grass fire which had started at the rear of the storage shed on the evening of 30 August 2010.
