Asbestos exposure leads to increase in mesothelioma

The annual number of new cases of mesothelioma – a cancer for which the only known cause is exposure to asbestos – has increased to a new peak of 660 cases, according to Safe Work Australia.

Enforceable undertaking for Australian Rail Track Corporation

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has entered into a Court enforceable undertaking with Comcare following an accident in which two people died after driving on an unsealed access track owned and controlled by ARTC.

Safety alert issued over micro-sleeps

NT WorkSafe recently issued a safety alert highlighting the importance of an effective fatigue management system for drivers of heavy and light vehicles and other mobile plant that may momentarily fall asleep (also called a micro-sleep) and lose control of the vehicle while at work.

Unsafe workplace costs Victorian company $50,000

A Tullamarine company in Victoria has been fined $50,000 after two men suffered serious injuries to their hands in February 2009.
