Workshop

On behalf of the Safety Insitute of Australia and ENGENEOHS, we invite you to participate in the Introduction to FRAM Workshop: Modelling Complex Socio-technical Systems, which will be held from 16-17 August 2018 in Canberra.

Introduction to FRAM Workshops introduce the detailed and tested Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) that can be applied to enhance investigations, risk assessment, safety management and system designs.

Within this 2 day workshop we will cover:

  • Understanding How Something Happens – When it works and when it fails
  • Introduction to FRAM –The four underlying principles
  • FRAM – First Steps – How to use FRAM and the FMV
  • FRAM – How to complete the model and how to use it

You will explore how to think about complexity in new ways. We begin by reconstructing the models we know and take for granted: Causality; Dominoes; Tripod; Swiss Cheese; Fault tree; Event tree; Bow tie.

This is an opportunity for all business areas dealing with complexity: managers, designers; engineers, project managers, safety professionals, human resources practitioners, & human factors/ergonomists, from all fields including Transport, Medical, Service, Communications, Manufacturing, Logistics, and government.

Tackle the challenges of Risk and Safety Analysis by understanding the nature of variability of everyday conditions that may lead to both positive and adverse outcomes. It is important to have the right model.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
In this interactive learning experience, Participants will learn:

  • The principles and practices of the FRAM
  • The keys to making a working Model of complexity
  • How to build data for an effective Model
  • How to use a Model of a complex system.

This course is delivered in Australia under license and has been designed by Erik Hollnagel (Ph.D. psychology) Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, (Industrial Safety Chair at Mines Paris-Tech and Professor Emeritus at University of Linkoping.
