On behalf of the Safety Institute of Australia, the SA Branch invites you to join us on Wednesday 20 March 2019, for a guided tour of the new Northern Connector road extension project construction site.

Due for completion at the end of 2019, the Northern Connector will be a six-lane, 15.5 kilometer motorway, providing a vital freight and commuter link between the Northern Expressway, North-South Motorway, Salisbury Highway and Port River Expressway.

Concrete paving will require about 175,000 cubic meters of concrete, produced on-site, with all the cement and quarry products being sourced locally in SA.

Constructing the road in concrete will approximately halve future maintenance costs and, during construction, will generate an additional 40 jobs and an extra $11 million for the SA economy compared to building the road out of asphalt.

Personnel will be collected by mini-bus at Gepps Cross or at the Northern Connector site office, and will then be taken for a guided tour at selected stops within the new Northern Connector road extension project construction site.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Get amongst the big plant and equipment on a large construction site
  • Acquire an understanding of the hazards and risks associated with road building
  • Appreciate the logistics of long term infrastructure
  • Understand that it’s also about the safety culture of the contractor’s workforce
